As a sport historically dominated by male personalities, how has it changed for women? Women's surfing is riding a wave of change, empowerment and respect. The powerful stories shared by all the participating athletes gives our sport such depth and a strong platform to grow from. My mother, Mary Fitzgibbons — the time I spend with her is precious.
The women who inspire me the most are those who are just being themselves. I do it every day. I take 15 minutes to sit still and be calm in myself. I like to do this in the water, but it can be anywhere: you just need to register where you are, absorb the beauty of the environment around you, and recognise the beauty in yourself, to reach a feeling of contentment.
I am lactose-intolerant and eat predominantly plant-based meals and occasional quality meats. Surfing is such a big part of Australia's culture that the four athletes could become legends at the Games.
